Therapy
During the first several sessions, I work collaboratively with clients to develop a plan to achieve the client's desired therapeutic goals. Depending on the client's needs, therapy may consist of brief problem-focused and solution oriented techniques and skills building, or it may consist of a lengthier process of changing deeper personality characteristics.
My approach integrates scientifically validated cognitive-behavioral, psychodynamic, and family systems theories and considers both biological and psychological contributions to your experience.
Some of the problems I help clients with include:
- Trauma and PTSD (Specialty)
- Disruptive and defiant behaviors in children and adolescents (Specialty)
- Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
- Stress and anger management
- Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
- Relationships and Couples Conflicts
- Veteran and Military issues
- LIfe transitions (divorce, blended families, professional changes, retirement, etc.)
If, after discussing your situation, I don't feel I am best suited to meet your clinical needs, I will be glad to assist you in finding the best and most appropriate care for you.
Psychological Diagnostic Testing
In addition to psychotherapy, I also conduct psychological evaluations for clients of all ages, which can provide a better understanding of one’s personality characteristics and cognitive strengths and weaknesses. The extent and choice of tests will be determined based on the diagnostic question and the specific factors of the individual being tested, and will be discussed with the client prior to beginning.
Evaluations may take one to several sessions and will include an initial interview and a written report of the results, which will be reviewed with the client.
Some of the testing instruments I am qualified to administer include:
- Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scales (WAIS-IV)
- Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (WISC-IV)
- Millon Clinical Multiaxial Inventory (MCMI-III)
- Millon Adolescent Clinical Inventory (MACI)
- Millon Pre-Adolescent Clinical Inventory (M-PACI)
- Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI-2)
- Robert's Aperception Test for Children (Roberts-2)
- Thematic Aperception Test (TAT)
- House-Tree-Person Drawings
- Conner's Adult ADHD Rating Scales (CAARS)
- Conner's Continuous Performance Test (CPT-II)
- Auchenbach Child Behavior Checklist (parent, teacher, and child forms)
